May 16--ALAMOSA - Alamosa County Clerk and Recorder Holly Lowder will be the state's new elections director, Secretary of State Gigi Dennis announced Monday.

The position, which Lowder will begin on June 1, is responsible for overseeing all state and county elections, candidates and initiatives, campaign and political finance, voting system certification and lobbyist registration and disclosure.

Lowder, 63, has served as Alamosa County's clerk since 1981. She replaces William Compton, who left the office earlier this year to become political director for the Colorado Democratic Party.
