If in his May 8 letter to the editor Ernest Lefever is citing the late Lyn Nofziger correctly, then I am very much afraid that he is doing a disservice both to the departed and to the limerick. At least in its modern post-Edward Lear form, the latter simply must observe certain conventions, chief among them the rhythm. Your published limerick went:
