PDP governorship aspirant in Delta state, Dr Roland Eyime in this interview talks about Delta state, and why he wants to succeed the incumbent in 2007. He praises Governor James Ibori for good work, and shares his thoughts on the future of Delta state. Excerpts:
What is your appraisal of Delta State?
I would say it's a mixed bag. Delta is a state that is though young but endowed with all manners of resources. Like the Nigerian nation-state, Delta has no business suffering in the midst of plenty. But for the destabilization of the developmental strides of an administration that God has placed in the state, we would have done lot more than we are seeing now. Constant instability in the affairs of that state primarily engineered by inter-ethnic conflicts, youth restiveness and even lack of patriotism (if you will excuse the use of that word). The fact is that not every Deltan likes Delta or how else do you interpret it when somebody takes another to court for almost four years, Deltans taking their own to court to destabilise development and all that.
These are things that have definitely slowed down the development of Delta State. We would have done a lot better than this if there was peace. So my assessment is …
