CLEARWATER
Morton Plant Health System of Clearwater and Mease Health Care of Dunedin have announced plans to merge, creating a hospital-based health care system that will dominate upper Pinellas County.
The two hospitals were scheduled to reveal their plans Thursday (Oct. 21).
Morton Plant CEO Frank Murphy will be CEO of the new, not-for-profit system. Mease CEO Philip Beauchamp will be executive vice president and COO. The three hospitals in the new system -- Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater and Mease Hospitals in Dunedin and Countryside -- will keep their names.
The merger is big news for the Pinellas health industry, but not exactly a shock. …
