Tamil Nadu scores 65%, Pondicherry 83%.

Statesman News Service Chennai, May 8: A fairly high turnout of 65 per cent and the rivals caught in contrasting mood on polling day marked the election to the 13th state Assembly today. Over 83 per cent of about eight lakh voters of Pondicherry and Karaikal areas today exercised their franchise in the second phase of polls to 27 of the 30 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory. Pondicherry with 21 Assembly constituencies and Karaikal with six recorded 84.08 per cent and 81.6 per cent voting respectively. While Ousuddu recorded the highest percentage of voting at 92, at Modeliarpet, it was 87.19 per cent, adds PTI.

As polling ended, the rough estimate provided by chief election officer Mr Naresh Gupta was 65 per cent. 'The exact figures will be known tomorrow. Polling has passed off …
