Making up with GM
I haven't thought about buying a GM in more than 17 years, but I'm starting to be moved. The Caddy BLS and Saturn Aura look nice. If the interior quality matches the pictures, GM will do fine. Bring these cars here with manuals and they are on my shopping list.

Alfa pro and con
It's 2006 and there's still no Alfa Romeo in the States. The 2006 159 3.2 Q4 Sportwagon ("The Best Non-German Wagon,'' April 3) looks sweet, so why can't we have it? According to Mr. Lutz, GM is embarking on a "strategy of design and engineering sharing between Opel and Saturn.'' How about GM sharing some brands that we care about, like Pontiac and Alfa?

The Alfa 159 wagon story brought back fond memories of my '76 Alfetta, with its perfectly composed handling and the bark of its dohc four-cylinder. Then I remember the weak donuts in the driveshaft, the rubber-band shift linkage and the perpetual battle with tin worms. And now you suggest we lust over a beautiful body covering 3900 pounds of GM drivetrain? At $51,000? That ...
