Sheer Force
Ashley Force, 23, earned her NHRA Funny Car competition license after a successful two-day test at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The daughter of 13-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force drove one of her father's Ford Mustangs and recorded a best elapsed time of 4.936 seconds at 315.86 mph.
Ashley Force competes full-time in the Top Alcohol Dragster division but might move to Funny Car in 2007, and could even run select events this year. She will continue to test a Funny Car throughout the season.
Talladega Tracy
The April 29 Talladega Busch race should see Champ Car driver Paul Tracy making his fourth start in the series. Tracy raced for the Frank Cicci-Jim Kelly team in Daytona Beach (24th) and Las Vegas (36th), and for the Biagi Brothers in Mexico City (37th).
Foyt fired
After only one lead-lap finish in his first seven starts (with two crash-related DNFs), A.J. Foyt IV was released by Busch Series team owners Doug Stringer and Todd Braun. Foyt missed the Bashas' 200 at Phoenix and the Aaron's 312 at Talladega, but might drive the No. 14 Dodge for FitzBradshaw Racing at Richmond on May 5. Foyt remains under a driver development contract with Evernham Motorsports, and team owner Ray Evernham hopes to cobble together a limited Busch-ARCA schedule later this season.
