In Roanoke, stadium money will help fund library expansion
The Saskatoon Public Library, Saskatchewan, found itself on the right side of a public battle over diverting taxes for a new development. The city council had proposed shifting future library taxes for 15 years to help build an interchange for a new shopping center and neighborhood.
However, after protests from city workers and members of the public, the council on March 13 withdrew the library element of the project. The overpass is expected to cost $14 million CDN, with the developer paying 20 percent.
