NAHA -- The Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education has announced it will add sanshin stringed instrument performances, Okinawan karate and Ryukyu-style dancing to the skills section of second-stage exams for teachers at public schools from next fiscal year.
Officials at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology say it is extremely rare for local traditional arts to be added to employment examinations for teachers.
