Apr. 26--Austin High School's state writing scores are nearly 10 percentage points higher this year, but still are below the state average, according to results released today. About 87.7 percent of Austin High's sophomores passed the Minnesota Basic Skills writing test this year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education. That's up from last year's 78.3 percent. The state's average passing rate was 92.6 percent, an increase from last year's 91.2 percent. Austin High Principal Brad Bergstrom called his school's increase "fantastic," crediting students for taking the test seriously and teachers district wide for their work.…
