Manliness, by Harvey C. Mansfeld (Yale, 304 pp., $27.50)
ASKED by Harvard Magazine to comment on a former professor of his, Harvey Mansfield replied, "What impressed all of us about him was his manliness." "There was," Mansfield relates, "silence at the other end of the line, and finally the female voice said: 'Could you think of another word?'"
