Future Osceola hospital deals restricted. (Osceola County, Florida)

Columbia Healthcare Corp. is prohibited from acquiring any acute-care hospital in Osceola County for 10 years without first getting approval from the Federal Trade Commission, according to the antitrust settlement it reached with the FTC.

The settlement cleared the way for the merger of Columbia Hospital Corp. and Galen Health Care Inc. into Columbia Healthcare Corp. Shareholders of both companies approved the merger Aug. 31.

Locally, the merged company owns the 169-bed Osceola Regional Hospital in Kissimmee and the 267-bed Lucerne Medical Center in Orlando. Galen owned both of those hospitals.
