Apr. 19--A middle school intended to ease student crowding in eastern Lincoln County has been proposed for a site off Amity Church Road about a mile from N.C. 150. The school, which would open before the 2007-08 academic year, is being planned to relieve crowding in Pumpkin Center Middle and Elementary schools -- each expected to be about 20 percent above capacity this fall. Leon Harmon, Lincoln County's finance director, on Monday presented a resolution in which county commissioners would approve the purchase of about 111 acres for $2.5 million.
