In the end, the distinction of being the 66th Satsuki Sho champion did not go to Yutaka Take's Admire Moon, nor to star owner Fusaro Sekiguchi's two entries, Fusaichi Richard and Fusaichi Junk.

Instead, the honor went to a little-hailed colt named Meisho Samson and an even less-hailed jockey named Mamoru Ishibashi, as the two combined to win the first race of the Japanese Triple Crown series on Sunday afternoon at Nakayama Racecourse.
