Apr. 14--The surprise hit of last year's Millennium Park debut had to be "Made in Chicago: A Jazz Celebration," a summer-long series of remarkable ambition.
Though listeners often associate under-the-stars listening with lightweight repertoire, "Made in Chicago" bucked expectations, offering world premieres and other substantial fare in a spectacular setting: the Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion.
The throngs that turned out for the free series can expect more this summer, when "Made in Chicago" returns, expanding to eight concerts (from last year's six).
Moreover, the second season -- titled "Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz" -- will feature Chicago jazz stars partnering with their counterparts from around the planet.
"This summer, we're presenting Chicago's musical connections to the world," says Helen Doria, executive director of Millennium Park.
