Apr. 13--Matt Kitchie has the pedigree. Now, he has himself a football program. Kitchie, a 1996 Southeast High graduate who played and worked for coach Paul Maechtle, has been hired as Saint Stephen's first varsity head football coach. Kitchie beat out roughly 50 applicants, Saint Stephen's athletics director Dave Samler said, mostly because of Kitchie's link to local football. A former quarterback, Kitchie was a member of Southeast's 1994 state championship squad and coached wide receivers and quarterbacks there from 2000-04.
