Shove costs Gordon
NASCAR fined Jeff Gordon $10,000 and placed him on probation until Aug. 30 for his post-race shove of Matt Kenseth following the Food City 500 at Bristol on March 26. Other than equipment-related penalties, it is the first time NASCAR fined Gordon in his 13 full Cup seasons.
Martin expands schedule
Mark Martin doubled his Craftsman Truck Series schedule. Originally committed to just seven races, the Roush Racing driver has added seven more: both Martinsville races, the summer races at Dover and Bristol, and the fall races at Loudon, Talladega and Phoenix. Martin already announced plans to run the full 2007 Craftsman schedule. He won the season-opening races in Daytona Beach and Fontana, was second at Atlanta and fourth at Martinsville, and is the points leader.
Champ Car grid shapes up
With Champ Car's Long Beach season-opener just days away (April 9), several teams announced driver signings. Paul Gentilozzi's Rocketsports Racing will run former F1 competitor Antonio Pizzonia (confirmed for Long Beach only), while former series champion Cristiano da Matta is in at Dale Coyne Racing.
