Thailand: World Bank forecasts Thai growth at 5 per cent.

Section: Economy - The World Bank expects Thailand's economic growth to accelerate to 5 per cent this year, up from 4.5 per cent in 2005, thanks to a positive export outlook. Economic growth for East Asia excluding Japan was projected at 6.6 per cent, down from 6.8 per cent last year due to the lingering impact of higher global oil prices.

The World Bank's projection for Thailand is in the mid-range of most forecasts. The Bank of Thailand currently maintains a growth projection of 4.75 per cent to 5.75 per cent for 2006, compared with 4.5 per cent to 5.5 per cent by the Finance Ministry, although some private economists say growth …
