As an actor, I remember the first time I got excited about Shakespeare--it was when I performed on stage. It was then that I realized just how monumental and relevant Shakespeare is to our lives. This is what we want to bring to the students participating in the Adopt-a-School program: Shakespeare writes about feelings that we all experience and by reading, speaking, and acting his plays, we can understand ourselves and others better.

Getting students excited about Shakespeare by having them read one of his plays is like trying to get students excited about baseball by giving them the rulebook. As any coach knows, it is much easier if you give them the basic tools and let them figure it out. This has been the defining philosophy of the Adopt-a-School program since the beginning.
