Apr. 8--The Northeast High marching band provided the booming sound. The students tossed yellow and blue streamers and cheerleaders jumped for victory as Philadelphia public school student winners in academics, robotics, chess, and basketball were honored yesterday in the Benjamin Franklin High School gymnasium.
School district officials called it a "Prep" rally to recognize that the boys' basketball team from Preparatory Charter School of Mathematics, Science, Technology and Careers won Philadelphia's first-ever state championship, defeating Beaver Falls in the Division AA game last month.
