The Makerere University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has conducted a research into the incidence of induced abortion in Uganda, and their findings are disturbing. According to the research, northern Uganda leads the whole country in the incidence of induced abortions by far.
This is painfully paradoxical because this is the region that lags behind in economic welfare and social amenities.
It follows that the conditions under which an operation to terminate a pregnancy is performed are least safe.
We are therefore likely to be having many botched abortion operations in the north than elsewhere …
