IN what appears to be a new thinking on the vexed issue of tenure elongation, a section of northern elite is in the process of presenting a set of conditions to President Olusegun Obasanjo in the event that a constitutional amendment is effected. There are also strong indications that a South-South candidate may be presented for election in 2007 should the amendment fail.

The position of political leaders from the South-South insisting on producing the next president in 2007 is also a condition precedent to the geo-political zone participation in the 2007 general elections. …
