IT is no longer news that General Ibrahim Babangida has stepped out to be counted among those nursing the ambition to succeed Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Neither is it news again that the President's camp has since reached out to the former military ruler who merely "stepped aside" in 1993.

What does an analyst make of this development? Was there really an agreement in 1998 that Obasanjo would hand over to IBB? Have the duo been playing games with Nigerians?
