The Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila has expressed concern that Batswana are marginalised in the tourism industry. Presenting his ministry's budget proposals to Parliament recently, he said Batswana in prime tourism districts feel excluded by the industry from enjoying the economic benefits the sector provides.

He said tourism was still regarded as benefiting foreigners to the exclusion of Batswana. "Whilst this may seem like a perception rather than reality, the fact is that for years, some investors in the sector have not empowered Batswana to take management jobs of responsibility.
