River monitoring station now closer to Bukit Tagar landfill.

PUTRAJAYA: An automatic online monitoring station to check water quality was installed in Sungai Selangor last week.

It has been set up downstream from the Bukit Tagar landfill, which is suspected to have leaked its leachate into the river last month.

The station monitors the levels of different pollutants in the water over a 24-hour period and data is transmitted directly to the Department of Environment (DOE).

The continuous monitoring will allow the DOE to check the source of pollution quickly by matching the pollutants with its source along the river.
