Mar. 29--Nine Charlotte-area high school seniors are winners of UNC Charlotte's top scholarships.

The awards are worth between $6,750 and $42,750 over four years, and recipients are chosen based on academics, leadership and service.

Area winners are:

-- Tyson Lee Badders of St. Stephens High School in Hickory, recipient of the Reece A. Overcash Alumni Scholarship, worth $42,750. An Eagle Scout, he was president of the Future Business Leaders of America chapter, Quiz Bowl team captain and Beta Club treasurer.

-- Laleh Bahrami of Myers Park High won the $6,750 J. Murrey Atkins Scholarship. She was vice president…
