Charlotte gets Hall
The uptown Charlotte, North Carolina, area will be home to NASCAR's official Hall of Fame. The facility will be near the intersection of Brevard and Stonewall streets.
Charlotte, Daytona Beach and Atlanta were among six cities bidding for the Hall. The Birmingham, Alabama, area withdrew its proposal last year; Richmond, Virginia, and Kansas City, Kansas, were told last fall that they had missed the first cut.
According to the Charlotte Observer, the $137.5 million facility will be paid for largely through a 2 percent increase in Mecklenburg County's hotel room tax, as well as contributions from state government and local companies. All but $15 million of the total will be public money.
