KOVACH: Suzukis continue to get better, and have come a long way compared to when they were downright scary to drive on the freeway. This model is improved throughout. The only thing I don't like is the engine; it doesn't feel powerful enough for a fast launch. I expected more oomph from a sport/ute with just me inside. It's the only engine for all four Grand Vitara models.
ROCA: I generally like the Grand Vitara, but after a long weekend living with keyless start, my dislike of this so-called technology has deepened considerably. Each and every time you get in the car, you have to think about where to place the useless key so it doesn't get lost. Something about this whole thing makes the idea of a simple set of keys more precious, which is ridiculous.
Saturday I had to haul around my friend Bev because her hybrid car's battery died. I took her to work, picked her up, and we went out to eat. When I got her home later that afternoon, she realized she'd left her keys at work, so it was another couple of hours of messing around before I was finally home that day, and when I stepped out of the car I couldn't find my keys! Later it turned out they were in my pocket, but my routine was thrown way out of whack. The worst part about it all is knowing there is no hidden upside to keyless start, at least not one this non-engineer can envision. Couldn't the money spent on this technology be better spent on refining the engine?
BLAHNIK: I was pleasantly surprised when I sat inside this little ute. Suzuki really has improved by leaps and bounds. I remember just dreading having to drive a Vitara only five years ago because it didn't feel safe. This one is so different.
