1. Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon
Having just driven this smaller D-segment beauty, suffice to say this is a gorgeous piece of purely Italian genius that really does rival any German sportwagon. We like the sedan version we drove awhile back, but the interior and exterior benefit from the wagon design that makes the boring 156 it replaces irrelevant. With the Alfa SUV canceled, the 3.2 V6 Q4 version of this car looks to be the all-road Alfa solution. On sale everywhere but North America in April.
2. Alfa Romeo Spider
Can't you just see this all over the roads in SoCal or cruising South Beach? We can. Though the Brera coupe is pretty, it is too costly and weighs too much. The Spider works better, and doesn't need to weigh too darned much so long as you stick with the front-wheel-drive version. Problem No. 1, Alfa, indeed all of Fiat, needs a serious rear-wheel-drive chassis if it is ever to get into North America, particularly if that car is to carry something more spirited than a small V6. Pininfarina builds this Giugiaro design that goes on sale midyear everywhere but here.
