Court rejects appeal for Aum founder

The Tokyo High Court refused Monday to hear an appeal by Chizuo Matsumoto, founder of the Aum Supreme Truth cult, raising the possibility that a lower court death sentence will be finalized without additional hearings.

Matsumoto, better known as Shoko Asahara, was indicted on murder and other charges in 13 cases including the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system, another sarin attack in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, and the abduction and murder of a Yokohama lawyer and his family.
