TAIPING: Marooned in the middle of nowhere and housed in cramped barracks more than a century old, without piped water, one would usually jump at the opportunity of a transfer.
But not the nine policemen on the remote island of Pulau Pasir Hitam, some 40km from here.
Despite having to rough it out away from their families, these men have fallen in love with the island and its approximately 300 people.
"Nobody has ever asked for a transfer. In fact, some have requested to be posted here," officer-in-charge of the police station Sergeant Major Rusli Hitam said with pride. …
