Microsoft Corp. licensed some of its technology for DoubleSpace from Vertisoft and its DoubleDisk compression product. DoubleSpace is the newest and least time-tested of the products in this comparison. Although it is still unpolished and lacks such important features as automatic mounting of removable media (which will be addressed in the upcoming 6.2 release of MS-DOS), many believe that DoubleSpace will eventually dominate the compression market, because the program comes free with every copy of MS-DOS 6.0.
