KUALA LUMPUR: As snatch theft victim Liew Wuam Ni lay dying, another drama was unfolding nearby which proved that civic-consciousness was alive.

Patrons at a nearby restaurant, alerted by her cries, had jumped into a car and chased the thieves. They tailed the motorcycle for 10 minutes until the Cheras-Kajang highway when they decided to nudge the two-wheeler to see if they were on the trail of the right people.

"If they rode on, they were probably the culprits," said car owner Alan Chong, 30.
