Mar. 24--Local high school students have plenty of reasons for taking Advanced Placement courses. They can learn advanced concepts with similarly motivated classmates and boost grade-point averages with weighted AP grades. And if they do well on the corresponding AP exams, they can earn college credit, saving time and money. "It's definitely more of a challenge, to feel like I'm working for something," said Hickory High School senior Lauren Stark, who earned high marks on two AP tests last year and plans to take two more in May.
