Mar. 23--STOCKTON - Lincoln Elementary School won't close, Lincoln Unified administrators said Wednesday.
Supporters of the district's 127-year-old namesake campus have expressed anger and angst since September, when trustees directed Superintendent Steve Lowder to investigate closing the school, selling the land it sits on and building a new school on the current site of Village Oaks Elementary, less than two miles away.
Enrollment has slipped in the district, they said at the time, and both Lincoln Elementary and Village Oaks need so much renovation that it might be more efficient to tear them down and build anew.
