Telecommuting Review: the Gordon Report

The Yankee Group, a market research firm specializing in the computer and telecommunications industry, recently issued the first of two reports on home office markets. It is part of its "Yankeevision" information service, which is offered by subscription.

The report is entitled "Market Opportunities for Home Office Vendors" (Vol. 9, No. 11--September 1992), and was written for Yankee by Joann Pratt, who has been researching the work-at-home and telecommuting areas for many years. The executive summary of the report states in part that:

Telecommuters represent a small but critical segment of the home office phenomenon for vendors to monitor carefully. First, although many telecommuters now work at home with little in the way of office automation, the types of work they do would be facilitated by new products and services, such as personal and laptop computers, modems, fax machines, and multiple telephone lines. …
