FDA nomination rekindles debate over morning-after pill.

WASHINGTON _ President Bush's choice announced Wednesday to head the Food and Drug Administration promises to resurrect one of the most contentious debates of his presidency, whether the emergency contraceptive Plan B can be sold without a prescription.
Several Democratic senators immediately vowed to block the nomination of Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach, now the FDA's acting commissioner and head of the National Cancer Institute, until the agency decides whether the morning-after pill, marketed commercially as Plan B, can be sold over the counter. Most states now require a prescription before pharmacists can dispense it.
