Mar. 15--The board in charge of Visions Charter School could have done more to keep parents informed about the severity of its financial crisis, the head of the state's office of charter schools said this week.
The Claremont school closed Friday, a little more than a week after officials informed staff and parents that it did not have enough students or money to continue. "I think they were working very, very hard in that school, and (the closing) is a shame because of that," said Jack Moyer, director of the N.C. Office of Charter Schools. But, Moyer said, poor communication posed a problem. The board could have kept parents in the loop, he said, by holding a special meeting in November and saying, "Look, we don't have enough money to complete this school year.
