German-US automobile group DaimlerChrysler is planning to pay Karmann, the German manufacturer of convertibles, over 100m euros in order to reduce the production of the Chrysler Crossfire sports car, which Karmann currently produces as part of a contract with DaimlerChrysler. Karmann produced 34,000 of these vehicles in 2004, but this dropped to just 12,500 last year, as Chrysler, the US arm of DaimlerChrysler, had a large number of unsold vehicles of this model.
