Omnicare has been building a second stage cup-shaped base since Dec. 8.

Headquartered in Covington, Ky., Omnicare provides pharmaceutical services to nursing homes and other facilities for seniors in 47 states and Canada. It also does clinical research for the drug and biotech industries in 30 countries.

The firm acquired three other prescription-drug service providers in the past two years. It paid $1.8 billion for NeighborCare and $269 million for RxCrossroads LLC. Terms for an excelleRx buyout in August weren't disclosed.
