Audi will do four
Audi Sport confirmed it will field a four-car factory team in the DTM touring car series. The drivers will be Mattias Ekstrom, Tom Kristensen, Martin Tomczyk and probably Heinz-Harald Frentzen. The other Audi teams will include Team Phoenix (with Christian Abt and Pierre Kaffer) and Team Rosberg (Timo Scheider and Frank Stippler). Team Joest will devote all of its resources to the new R10 Le Mans prototype in 2006, and will not race in the DTM.
Ickx confirmed
Vanina Ickx, 31-year-old daughter of Belgian F1 and sports car racing legend Jacky Ickx, will drive a two-year-old ex-Joest team Audi in the DTM. Ickx will race the 4.0-liter V8 car for a new team formed by Colin Kolles, Midland F1 team boss. Meanwhile Susie Stoddart from Scotland will race a two-year-old Mercedes for Mucke Motorsport. Ickx and Stoddart are the first women to race in the DTM since Ellen Lohr, a race winner, drove for Mercedes in 1996.
