Oracle touts Google alternative
The business software maker will launch a product aimed at helping businesses quickly search databases and e-mail systems. CEO Larry Ellison said Oracle's product fills a gap left by the No. 1 search engine Google, which primarily searches Internet data and consumer PCs. Shares dipped a penny to 12.80.
Yahoo clips TV-like show plans
The Internet giant is cutting back on plans to bring original TV-style programs to the Internet. Lloyd Braun, head of Yahoo's Media Group, told The New York Times the group will shift its focus to content acquired from other media firms. He also denied talk that he's leaving Yahoo over differences with CEO Terry Semel. Shares fell 1.5% to 31.70.
