Mortgage applications fall again
Volume for the week ended Feb. 24 fell a seasonally adjusted 1.2% to 571.5, despite a dip in mortgage rates. Applications for home purchases fell 1.9%; refis gained 0.1%. Refinancings now take up 38.1% of all applications, edging down from the previous week. The share of adjustable rate mortgages fell to 28.3%. Adjustable rates have risen steadily over the past 2 years; fixed rates have stayed range-bound.
Home prices rose 12.95% in '05
Homes shrugged off higher interest rates and rising inventories during the 2nd half. Prices rose 2.86% in Q4 vs. Q3 for an annualized 11.4% gain, said the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise. Last year's 12.95% gain more than doubled the historical 6.4% average, said Bankrate.
Construction outlays miss views
