[A] Have you had this guy chained up in your basement or something? Because if not, I don't see why he needs his freedom back. Unless, of course, he plans to use his newfound independence to hook up with other girls. Now that would make more sense. I think what he's really trying to say is that the relationship is over.
So what's with the lame-ass excuse? Maybe, like you said, he's just too much of a wuss to actually break it off. ...
