Mar. 2--Rising market competition and operating costs will lead to consolidation in the property sector, with perhaps only a handful of firms dominating the industry within the next three years, according to Teerachon Manomiaphibul, a vice-president at Property Perfect.

He said banks are now taking a stricter line on project financing, while upper-end housing demand is also falling.

Many developers are turning to lower-end townhouse and condo projects with unit prices of three- to four-million baht each, Mr Teerachon said, adding pressure on smaller developers.
