Feb. 28--A new federal attempt to eliminate birth defects caused by Accutane starts Wednesday, after more than two decades of controversy over the acne drug and pregnancy.
But some dermatologists say that the plan, an Internet tracking system for Accutane users called iPLEDGE, is flawed and troublesome for them and their patients.
"It would be easier to do President Bush's taxes, I think, than to get a female patient of childbearing potential on (Accutane) as of March 1," said Dr. Frank Yoder, a Westerville dermatologist and one of the drug's original researchers.
