CREATING a powerful new player in the specialist refrigerated cargo trades has proved to be a relatively seamless affair, despite the lengthy wait for regulatory consent.

The European Commission finally approved the merger of two industry giants last summer, but the pair had already been working together and knew each other well.

NYKLauritzenCool, which combines three of the best known names in the business, is now the second largest operator of specialist reefer tonnage behind Belgium's Seatrade.
