Pranesh Sarkar in Kolkata Feb. 27. The two pythons at Alipore Zoo have always enjoyed their weekly helping of chicken. But as of this week, poultry is strictly off the menu. With the threat of avian flu fluttering above them, zoo authorities have decided that the reptilian duo will have to make do with rats instead. And its not only the snakes that are to be denied. Zoo keepers have decided the big cats including five leopards, 13 tigers and 11 lions in the zoo, who used to enjoy the occasional treat of chicken to vary their diet will from now stick to buffalo.
