Section: General News - Over the past years, the fishery sector of Thailand has come across many impediments, both within the country and from abroad. One of the major issues is the reduction of marine animals, especially along the coastal areas. This, however, is due to over fishing, and worse off, the general marine environment has deteriorated. With a significant lower number of marine animals, they cannot keep up with our ever increasing demands.

The Thai fishery sector is also facing problems outside the country. Most of the Thai fishing boats are otter trawlers and usually perform their fishing operations in the territorial waters of other countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
