Taipei, Feb. 22, 2006 (CENS)--Taiwan's expenditure on education and R&D has continued a stable growth in recent years. This year the expenditure is expected to hit a record high of 9.07% of the island's GDP, according to Cabinet-level Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD)

The CEPD indicated that the island's total expenditure on education and R&D, the so-called knowledge-based investment, stood at NT$800 billion (US$23.53 billion at US$1 = NT$34) in 2001, and in 2005 the figure jumped to NT$960 billion (US$28.24 billion).
